Lost Lantern Balcones 'Gentle Giant' Single Malt Whiskey

Gentle Giant from Lost Lantern's Single Distillery Series features a blend of five and half barrels of single malt distilled and aged by Balcones Distilling in Waco, TX.  The casks were aged between 3 and 4.5 years; one was an ex-apple brandy cask, one an ex-bourbon cask, and three and a half were 60 gallon European oak casks.  The nose offers scents of sweet malt, citrus, salted caramel, and prunes.  On the palate, fruity notes of lemon, apricot, apple, and pear combine with black pepper and clove spice and malty sweetness for a robust but balanced effect.  The finish is long with notes of white peppercorn, sweet oak, and toasty malt inviting the next sip.  This fruity, balanced whiskey shows a more elegant side of the rugged Texas distillery and won the "Best American Single Malt" award at the 2023 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
