Glenfarclas 12 Year Single Malt Scotch
Glenfarclas is one of the only truly independent old school Scotch distilleries still producing a truly old school whisky. Family run by the Grant family since 1865, the sixth generation is now at the helm, running things much the same way as it always has been. Producing just a small fraction of what many of their big Speyside neighbors do, they use only traditional direct fire distillation and age full term in ex-Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks, which lends all their whiskies a distinctive burnt caramel character along with classic sherried notes of sharp spice, nutty richness, Christmas cake, and dried fruits.
The 12 year is an excellent introduction to the distillery style, showcasing their trademarks beautifully. Nose is fresh and light, sherried fruit combined with a tempting spicy sweetness and a hint of sappy oak. Flavor is full-bodied with a delightful sherried fruit. Oak and delicious sweet sensations. Finish is long and flavorsome with a lingering spiciness.
