Fish House Old Fashioned

In his influential tome of cocktail history, Imbibe!, David Wondrich calls the Philadelphia Fish House Punch “the greatest of all American punches, which deserves to be protected by law, taught in the schools and be a mandatory part of all Fourth of July celebrations with dilute portions given to those not yet of legal age, so that they may be accustomed to the taste.” 

This Old Fashioned is a loving riff on this centuries old recipe. While the original is meant to serve a party of 30 thirsty men, we scaled this down to a single, easy-to-make Old Fashioned that can be enjoyed with much of the same character of the original.
