Clairin Communal Four Village Haitian Rum
Clairin, meaning ‘Clear’ in Creole, is a rustic Haitian sugarcane spirit made from fresh cane juice and is a subcategory of white rum. Clairin Communal harmoniously blends four rums made by Clairin producers from small communities in different corners of Haiti. Each utilise traditional production methods; natural sugarcane varieties, wild fermentation and a discontinuous distillation. Clairin Communal highlights elements from each of the producers and lets their fruity and funkiness shine.
On the nose there is fresh sugar cane juice blended with fruit salad. Pungent cane notes mix with apples, oranges, and unripe bananas. Leafy herbal hints hide underneath, along with gentle new-car leather and a touch of icing sugar sweetness. Boiled sweets and candied fruit lead on the palate, followed by treacle tart, tarte tatin and creamy caramel sauce. Crunchier caramel and cinder toffee notes build, leading to a background of dark chocolate, liquorice and warm engines. Bottled at 43% abv.
