Glenfarclas 10 Year Single Malt Scotch
Glenfarclas is one of the only truly independent old school Scotch distilleries still producing a truly old school whisky. Family run by the Grant family since 1865, the sixth generation is now at the helm, running things much the same way as it always has been. Producing just a small fraction of what many of their big Speyside neighbors do, they use only traditional direct fire distillation and age full term in Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks, which lends all their whiskies a distinctive burnt caramel character along with classic sherried notes of sharp spice, nutty richness, Christmas cake, and dried fruits.
The entry level 10 year is gloriously smooth, with the depth and finish you would expect of a much older dram. Nose is tempting sherry, sweet malty tones combine with delicate aromas, releasing subtle spices. Warming the glass reveals honey, vanilla, and pear drops. Flavor is delicately light, with a mouth-watering combination of maltiness, sherry sweetness, hints of dried fruit, vanilla, cinnamon and cloves. Finish is long, smooth, and spicy.
