Foursquare Exceptional Cask Mark XXV "Equipoise" 14 Year Rum
This latest Bajan masterpiece from Foursquare distillery marks the first time in a long time we are seeing a completely new kind of cask in use for the distillery. We've seen, drank, and loved Foursquare rums finished in Madeira, Port, Sherry, Cognac, and back in the day, even some red wine casks, but this is the debut for Calvados casks. Calvados, the apple brandy from France's Normandy region, is a cask rarity for aging any spirit, with few barrels ever leaving the region. This particular batch of barrels seems to have from Calvados Christian Drouin, who did a cask exchange with Foursquare and released some of their own calvados aged in Foursquare rum casks.
As with all Foursquare rums, this is a blend of both column and pot still, with part aged entirely in ex-Bourbon casks for 14 years, and part aged first in ex-Bourbon casks for 10 years, followed by 4 years in ex-Calvados. It is bottled at 61% abv.
