Foursquare 12 Year Exceptional Cask Mark XXIV 2011 Rum

Foursquare is back with another stunner of a vintage. This single vintage blended rum was distilled from molasses in 2011 on both the double retort pot still and twin column still of the distillery, and aged onsite in ex-bourbon barrels for 12 years. Though we always love the cask experiments from Foursquare, it is these vintage dated, cask strength, purely ex-bourbon releases that really show the idiosyncratic signature of the distillery.
Foursquare and its head distiller/blender Richard Seale, have for years now been beating the drum not just for Barbados rum, but for pure, unadulterated, full charactered rum itself. But however invested they are in educating the drinking world about rum, the calling card has always been the stuff itself, and each release only gets better and better. Drinking Foursquare rum is a delight. This 2011 vintage has a lovely nose full of citrus, florals, cardamom, pipe tobacco, caramel, and brown butter. It smells like a decadent treat, and it truly is. The palate is big and viscous with citrus, cinnamon, allspice, plums, dark chocolate fudge brownie, and roasted nuts.
