Barrell Mizunara Cask Finished Bourbon
For the third release in their Cask Finish Series Barrell has finished a blended bourbon in first-use, toasted but not charred Japanese Mizunara oak barrels. The blend consists of 6, 7, 8, 9, and 14 year old bourbons sourced from Indiana, Tennessee, and Kentucky with a derived mash bill of 76% corn, 20% rye, and 4% malted barley and was bottled without chill filtration at 116.42 proof. On the nose, fruity scents jump out with cherry, apricot, and raisin backed by caramel, vanilla, peppery oak, and sandalwood. On the palate, flavors of sandalwood, leather, and oak are front and center, with some sweet berries and honey in the background. The finish showcases black pepper, leather, and sandalwood before surprisingly turning to sweet butterscotch and caramel.
