A club favorite returns! We are thrilled to have another exclusive "Double Barrel" from Found North for this quarter's whiskey club. Found North and its founders, The Taylor Brothers, have become good friends of the store, and we're always in awe of both their blending prowess and the sheer quality of whiskey they get their hands on. They're super transparent about their process, and the whiskey they source. They are whiskey nerds making blends for whiskey nerds.
Being the stellar blenders they are, Found North's single barrel program is a little different than most. They take a handful of well-aged whiskies to create an initial blend. They then re-cask that blend into a variety of different barrels, using different oak types and different char levels to create varying flavor profiles and a distinct style for each single barrel. With a club our size, we outgrew the bottle count of a normal single barrel long ago. With most distillery single barrel programs, this simply means we get to pick out two barrels and let you choose. But when we first talked to the Taylor Bros. about our whiskey club, the "Double Barrel" idea was hatched. What if they took their single barrel program format and then found intriguing blends of two barrels within that? We've yet to not be wowed with what has resulted.

This "season's" base blend is:
-
29% 12 year rye in ex-bourbon
-
30% 23 year corn in New Wood
-
36% 15 year corn in ex-bourbon
-
5% 25 year corn in ex-bourbon
After those were blended, they were then placed into twenty different casks. We selected a blend of barrel FN-30, which was finished in French Limousin casks used to age Italian Amarone wine, and barrel FN-32, which was finished in French Apple Brandy casks. The resulting Double Barrel is exactly the kind of beautiful balance we can usually only dream of old whiskey achieving, with the darker wood tones and complex spice in harmony with juicy red berries and orchard fruits from the finishing casks, bottled at a hefty but drinkable 62.9% abv. Like a wise old grandparent who can still drive at night and beat you in a fist-fight - rare and worthy of respect. We think you're gonna love this one as much as we do.
