Planteray Jamaica 1984 Clarendon 40 Year Rum
Planteray's oldest rum release ever, this masterpiece of aged Jamaican rum comes from a single cask of pot still rum from the Clarendon distillery. That cask aged for 35 years at the distillery in Jamaica before being brought to Maison Ferrand in France, where is aged in ex-Cognac casks for another 5 years, for an astounding 40 total years. Thanks to the change from tropical to continental ageing, the wide temperature range brought a strong integration of the tannins, softening the oak notes to a complex, gentle tug and pull of sweet and spice. Following this process, this it was bottled at cask strength at 57.2% ABV, which guarantees its rich and complex aromatic profile, in a style as balanced as it is elegant, characteristic of the distilleries of southern Jamaica.
