Who's Your Toddy?
With a chill to the weather and a nip to the air, it has become one of my favorite times of the year: hot toddy season. This lovely, warm, sweet, boozy* drink has become something of a magic elixir for me in the winter. Sore throat? Have a toddy. Runny nose? Headache? Seasonal depression? Toddy. And, with such a simple base, this warm cocktail is endlessly customizable. Tasting Table's Classic Toddy is a great place to start. If you want to lean into the medicinal side of the Toddy, try using Laphroaig 10 Year Scotch. If you want more holiday spice in your Toddy, use Milam and Greene Port Finished Rye. If sweet and smooth sounds better I recommend Home Base's California Corn Whiskey. And, if you want my personal all-time favorite Hot Toddy, follow the above recipe using FEW Immortal Rye, add a cinnamon stick garnish, and let all of your troubles melt away. Cheers!
*Not a whiskey person? You can still Toddy! A few favorite non-whiskies include Pueblo Viejo Anejo Tequila, Hamilton Demerara 86 Rum, and Larid's Apple Brandy, but any barrel-aged spirit can work.
